Behrend Tops Lions Soccer 6-1
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's soccer fell 6-1 in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest with Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.
Seth Murrelle (Sayre, PA/Sayre) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season for the Lions (3-10, 2-3 AMCC), and Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made six saves at goalkeeper.
Behrend (9-4, 4-0 AMCC) established a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the first half. Ryan Maurer beat the keeper from 10 yards at 4:45 for the visitors' first goal, and Richard Blanchard scored in a one-on-one situation with the keeper at 9:09 for his team's second goal.
Ryan Segar increased the Behrend lead to 3-0 at 33:43 on his header goal from short range.
Murrelle put Penn State Altoona on the board shortly thereafter. Deontae Mosley (Houston, TX/Hylton) sent a through ball into the box for Murrelle, who sent a shot past the keeper from five yards to make it 3-1.
But Behrend continued to click offensively in the second half, extending its lead to 6-1. Aaron Harris chipped a shot past the keeper at 56:37, and Christian Eckberg also scored from five yards at 61:23. Cole Ferguson's goal at 82:52 put the visitors up by five.
Behrend led Penn State Altoona 20-8 in total shots attempted and 12-3 in shots on goal. Behrend also led 3-2 in corner kicks.
Penn State Altoona men's soccer will return to action next Saturday, October 14 after a week off. That day, the Lions host AMCC opponent Medaille College for a 1:00 p.m. game at Spring Run Stadium.
